A new house in Belize honors Sister Evelyn

Sister Evelyn Hurley, SCN, celebrated her 109th birthday March 7. In anticipation and recognition of the event, a lay missionary group traveled to Belize in February under the guidance of Sister Luke Boiarski, SCN, a dear friend of Sister Evelyn’s. The group’s mission was to build a home, in Sister Evelyn’s honor, for Dorla and her 6-year-old grandson, Tephawn. The missionary group included Sister Luke, Sister Sangeeta Ayithamattam, SCN; Sister Mary Ann Connolly, SC (Halifax), and six of Sister Evelyn’s family members.

“It was a humbling privilege for all who were part of this journey,” said Sister Mary Ann. “The blessing of the life of ‘Evie,’ who has embodied Charity for the past 90 years, has now blessed this beautiful family! Happy birthday, Sister Evelyn, and thank you for a lifetime of love and service!” Read more about Sister Evelyn’s birthday celebration on the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth web site.
