Get Involved: Charity Earth Network

Congregations in the Sisters of Charity Federation are growing in awareness, concern and action in favor of our beleaguered home planet Earth. Certainly Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si has given a special impetus to learn ways of living more sustainably on Earth. We believe that our Congregations and the richness of our charisms have a special part to play in this effort. We invite you to consider joining us in beginning a Charity Earth Network.

The Charity Earth Network is an organization of Sisters and Associates of the Congregations of the Sisters of Charity Federation who are interested in:

  • reflecting on ecology/the new cosmology/sustainability from the perspective of the Vincentian/Setonian charism
  • sharing information and resources
  • supporting each other in our efforts to advocate for a more sustainable Earth community

The Charity Earth Network has been organized by Fr. Terrence Moran (Office of Peace, Justice and Ecological Integrity, Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth), Sister Carol De Angelo (Peace, Justice and Integrity of Creation Office, Sisters of Charity of New York) and Sister Caroljean Willie (Program Director of EarthConnection, Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati).

JOIN THE NETWORK!

The Charity Earth Network is open to sister members, associates, affiliates and coworkers, and hopes to begin by meeting virtually – through email and perhaps conference calls. There may be some face-to-face gatherings in the future. Please email pjei@scnj.org in order to join the Network and be placed on the email list. If you have any ideas for the Network, feel free to share them. In the meantime, join us in praying for the congregations in the Federation with these words from the Earth Charter which Pope Francis quotes in Laudato Si:

Let ours be a time remembered for the awakening of a new reverence for life, the firm resolve to achieve sustainability, the quickening of the struggle for justice and peace, and the joyful celebration of life.
