Nuns Build 2016: Women Religious Making a Difference

Nuns Build 2016 group in New Orleans

The 9th Annual Nuns Build took place in New Orleans last week, November 14-17. Sisters from across North America came with friends and family to New Orleans to help rebuild the city in its 11th year of projected 20-year recovery. Among those participating were Ida Nowlan NDSC, Peg Finch SCL, Pat Wittberg SCC, Theresa Joseph Kramer SCH, Sister Claire Regan SCNY, Sister Mary Lex Smith SCL, Sister Monica Gundler SCC, and Scott Dugan with the Seton Shrine.

Sisters worked in East New Orleans for the first couple of days rehabbing a house. They laid floor, installed baseboards, and painted walls and doors.

The second half of the week, sisters worked in Baton Rouge, a city hit hard with flooding three months ago, to do the final cleanup and readying of the house for the homeowners. The sisters then helped welcome home the Marcus family to their newly restored home! There was a press conference and ribbon cutting ceremony. The sisters also presented a welcome home signed picture frame from the whole nuns build gang.
